King (Chinook) Salmon
King Salmon are the largest Salmon Species. Some of them can grow to tremendous size (Lez Anderson caught a 97lb monster in the Kenai River) King Salmon can be caught 12 months of the year in Homer since they are what is called a near coastal feeder. They spend the entirety of the ocean phase of their life cycle on the continental shelf, often cruising hundreds if not thousands of miles from their native stream. The Largest Kings are typically caught in the spring when we intercept what we affectionately call “Spawners” These fish are getting in their last feed before they head up one of the local rivers to spawn and die. Kings are known for long blistering runs that peel hundreds of yards of line in a few seconds. These fish are some of the hardest fighters in the world. Average size King Salmon in Homer are 10-20lbs but 30, 40 even 50lb Kings are caught every year.

Silver, Chum, Pink and Red Salmon
All the other Alaskan Salmon leave their native river and disappear somewhere off the continental shelf into the cold deep waters of the Alaskan Gulf only reappearing in the area near their native river mouth a month of two before they spawn. These Salmon are incredibly abundant, and when they show up, they show up in the tens of millions. The first to show up are Chum (also called Dog Salmon) they start biting in late May, next are Red (Also called Sockeye) they primarily feed on zoo plankton so they are not caught as often in the salt, then the Pink Salmon show up in mid June, by mid July it is Silver time. Coho or Silver Salmon are probably the best sport salmon, these hard hitting aggresive fish are known for their acrobatics.
Limit is 6 Salmon total. Only 3 of which can be Silver.
No Annual Limit
